Born in Bailey's Brook, Pictou County, Major Margaret MacDonald chose nursing as a career and was a Canadian military nurse.
She was given a 'Major' military rank in the British Empire and was one of the first females to hold the position.
She was also awarded the Royal Red Cross (1916) and the Florence Nightingale Medal (1918).
