Meet Andrea

I recently enjoyed a delightful conversation with this lovely married mother of two young adult sons & Mom to four cats. Andrea and her husband, Earl moved to Pictou County in June 2021 from Carleton Place just outside of Ottawa. I soon discovered it’s been a slight change in lifestyle for them but an absolutely wonderful adventure so far!

“Where in Pictou County did you move?” I asked curiously. She replied, “We are on Meadowville Station Rd close to River John Rd & we love it!”, she laughed, “Except for our section of road which missed out on being paved.” … Since camping and traveling are two of Andrea’s passions, she has been down many unpaved roads less traveled, and like life, she just takes things all in stride with a “just go with it” adventurous attitude.

It wasn’t long into our conversation that I discovered that Andrea is an amateur photographer who loves taking photos of nature, wildlife, sunsets, and anything that catches her eye!

She has been a Veterinary Technician for 30 years and currently works part-time at a Vet Clinic in New Glasgow. She continued, “I also fostered baby raccoons in Ontario for 12 years through the Rideau Valley Wildlife sanctuary. I usually had 3-4 babies from about 5 weeks old until 4 months old/ 20+ lbs. I miss that - it was a lot of work, but I loved it.” … Wow, how fascinating I thought.

I asked, “What do you love most about living here?” She smiled, “I love the fact that we are so close to the ocean. I love seeing bald eagles everywhere, and the abundance of wildlife. Since we’ve been here, I’ve seen a black bear, 1 bobcat, fox, porcupine, raccoons, coyotes, tons of deer and I swear I saw a Wolverine! It was tall, slender & dark brown.” Without hesitation, I quickly replied, “Anything is possible in Pictou County.” We both laughed.

Our conversation reminded me to not forget to appreciate the wondrous beauty that surrounds us – from the sky to land, and sea. In these times more than ever, it is important to take a deep breath and be thankful for the place where we live.
